WELCOME

On behalf of the European Headache Federation it is my pleasure to introduce the 8 th biennial EHF Congress, which will be held in Valencia April 26-29, 2006. Indeed, it is an honour for the Grupo de Estudio de Cefalea de la Sociedad Espanola de Neurologia to be hosting this congress for the first time.

Since its foundation in 1992, the EHF has sought to improve the life for those afflicted in Europe by headache by dedicating its efforts to improving awareness of headache disorders and their impact amongst governments, health care providers and consumers across Europe.

With the changes in the political structure in Europe and, with it, health care systems and access to treatments, the EHF has reassessed its role and responsibilities by adopting an integrated strategy directed towards key players involved in primary and tertiary headache management. The biennial congress of the EHF, however, continues to be an important medium towards the goals the EHF has set itself.

The aim of this international event is to promote scientific communication and the debate about all aspects of research, teaching and treatment of headache, with special emphasis on the advances in mechanism in the physiopathology of headache, recent discoveries in the fields of genetics of headache, the clinical experience of new acute and preventive treatments and repercussions for social and health care aspects.

This EHF congress consists of symposia, debates, scientific sessions as well as plenary lectures by eminent headache specialists, covering a variety of topics that will interest both those who are at the beginning of their careers and those who have already earned a reputation in the headache field. In addition, there is a clearly recognisable programme for European General Practioners, where they have an opportunity to discuss problems of specific interest to them. Thus the congress offers a scientific programme not only for headache specialists (neurologist, internists and basic scientists), but there is also a part oriented towards the General Practitioners, who are very welcome not only to attend but also to actively participate in this congress.

We very much hope you will join us in Valencia in 2006, it’s a marvelous place and it will be an ideal moment to talk about headache.

Sincerely yours,

Miguel JA Lainez, MD, PhD
Chairman, Organizing Committee
Vice-President, EHF
